“NEW”

What is it about the word new? For me, it’s new beginnings, the chance to develop a new attitude, time to allow awakenings, and a brand new opportunity to improve upon my own life. Like so many women, I look at my health. Starting with my weight. On January 29th, I will turn 64… Shhh, don’t tell my spirit – it soars like a woman in her forties!

However, two years ago I broke my foot. So much for hiking. After only a few months, I gained thirty pounds. I went from a healthy 5’5″ 145 pound vibrant person to a woman with no energy, desire or control. Thanks to metabolic syndrome, my work habits – sitting more than five hours a day, I was at risk of developing a cluster of health conditions, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and hello cholesterol!

I’ve read all the diet books. Tried every meal plan developed. What works best for me is developing a plan of action that fits my lifestyle. One that includes a new work schedule, food plan, and designated time to get back outdoors!!

I invite you to check back in six months. By then, I should weigh in at 145! I’ll complete my third novel, THE COTTAGE. And write my first non-fiction book – No Dressing Required! That’s right, you heard it here first. I’m calling myself out. Psst, step one. Write it down. Change your mindset and the rest is easy.

I’m up by 4 a.m. and I usually go to bed by 8:30. My day starts with a cup of black coffee. Followed by emails, breakfast with my husband and then work. WAIT! My NEW plan of action says: 15 minutes of yoga… then work for three hours, followed by a an hour of hiking, lunch, more work, stretching for 15 minutes, back to work and then dinner. I’m also going to incorporate more green vegetables, salads, berries, and flax seed to my meal plan. Notice I did NOT say the word diet. February, I’ll share a few recipes with you and my weight. If all goes well…and it will. I should weigh in at 165. My plan is to loose 5 pounds a month. I only set attainable goals.
